My experience as a Chateaubriand Fellow is a major highlight of my time as a doctoral student. The fellowship permits me to engage in the thorough ethnographic fieldwork necessary to my dissertation, while providing me with a helpful network of scholars and administrators, as well as practical support. I’ve enjoyed lively and informative exchanges with people at my host institution, in addition to periodic check-ins with other Chateaubriand and Fulbright fellows who have similar concerns and perspectives. Thanks to the funding of the Chateaubriand Fellowship, I am able to travel to various sites to conduct interviews and document performances. I also have the freedom to devote lots of time to soliciting, studying, and analyzing materials that are essential to my dissertation. I am extremely appreciative of all that the Chateaubriand program has enabled for me as a researcher.
